Regional Results, Turkey Meet, and a Great Conversation on Swimming Culture
A quick update on our athletes, upcoming meets, and a deeper dive into the mindset behind Florida Atlantic Aquatics.
Hi All,
The weather might be cooling down, but things are heating up at the pool. As I write this, our high school swimmers are deep in their Regional and State competitions. We’ve already seen some incredible swims, and with full tapers underway, I know we’ll witness even more. Congratulations to all our high-school athletes...and best of luck at your season-ending meets!
🦃 Turkey Meet
Next up for the club is the North Palm Beach Turkey Meet in Stuart, Florida. We added this meet to the schedule for several reasons. It’s a quality Prelims/Finals format held in a fast facility — but the main reason is timing.
It lines up perfectly with the high-school championship taper. This lets our club and high-school swimmers peak around the same time, keeping our training progression consistent and easier to manage. It also gives our younger athletes a taste of what’s coming in their future high-school seasons.
Beyond that, we use meets like this to prepare swimmers for college-style racing. At that level, high performers race at conference meets and — just a few weeks later; hopefully at NCAAs. Learning to perform at your best twice within a short window is a skill few master early, and we try to build that foundation now.
I’ve often said that our swim club is like a prep school for life; a place that prepares young people for what comes next, whether that’s college swimming or life beyond the pool. Every meet, set, and schedule has a purpose. Sharing that purpose in letters like this helps keep everyone aligned and gives you insight into the “why” behind our training.
🎙️ A Conversation About Swimming Culture
Speaking of sharing — I had the honor of being interviewed by Summer Finke (Bobby’s sister) on her excellent podcast, Lane One, supported by the International Swim Coaches Association (ISCA) and Swimming World Magazine. You might recognize ISCA — we attend their Championship meets each spring and summer. Summer’s show has featured icons like Rowdy Gaines, Dara Torres, and others, and our conversation covers a lot of ground: culture, communication, empathy, and the parent-coach partnership that helps swimmers thrive.
The full interview runs just over an hour, but I’ve pulled a short sample clip you might enjoy. You can find them (and the full episode) below.
I’m sharing this not to say “look at me” — but to help strengthen the culture we’re building together. We’re a new club, still shaping our identity, and open conversations like this help clarify what we stand for and where we’re headed. The clearer our shared vision, the faster we can become the kind of program that elevates every swimmer — and every family — who’s part of it.
Check it out if you have a few minutes.
And as always, thank you for the opportunity to work with your families.
See you at the pool,
Rich
